It has been a busy week for the Kansas City Chiefs and GM Brett Veach with the signings of Sammy Watkins and Anthony Hitchens.  They filled some needs with Watkins because it gives them 2 legitimate wide receiving deep threats with him and Tyreek Hill and they signed a run stuffing linebacker in Hitchens that grades very well with Pro Football FocusDustin Colquitt was just signed for 3 more years meaning I had to take out the best punter in the draft Michael Dickson whom I had mocked to the Chiefs in 1.0.

Also noticeably absent in this mock is a WR because I did have them taking 2 but bringing back DAT and bringing in Sammy Watkins changed that.  Although look for Keke Coutee who played with Mahomes at Tech to make a future appearance in another mock.

**ROUND 2 PICK 54-Lorenzo Carter-EDGE-Georgia-Brett Veach was a former scout assigned to the SEC so it makes sense for Carter to be high on their list.  He also fills one of the pressing needs for EDGE rush.

From Lance Zierlein NFL.COM:     STRENGTHS "Tremendously long and rangy. Long strider with ability to cover ground quickly and close on wide flowing plays. Effective use of arm length. Consistent punch and separation against blocks. Takes contain responsibilities seriously. Plus quickness in lateral slides. Frame unravels to catch running backs who think they are in the clear. Uses long-arm stab to access blocker's frame and set the edge. Build-up speed creates downfield angles to the sideline to challenge ball carriers and receivers after catch. Active as tackler to search for and yank at the football. Forced and recovered six career fumbles. Has edge-threatening get-off. Uses slinky upper body to slide around blocker's punch. Flashes talent to flip hips around the arc and flatten to the quarterback. Posted 15 career sacks".

**ROUND 3 PICK 78-Donte Jackson-Corner-LSU-Again going to the SEC for Veach. Ran a blazing 4.32 at the combine. SEC champion in the 4 x 100.  This is just adding elite speed to the defense.

**ROUND 3 PICK 86-Braden Smith-Guard-Auburn-A chance he is not here at this point but with Fulton signing in Houston this becomes a real need for the  Chiefs on the O-line.  Had him in first mock and will keep him in this one.

**ROUND 4 PICK 122-Hercules Mata'afa-EDGE-Washington State-Played as an interior defensive lineman but is undersized and will move to the outside in the NFL. Big time motor guy that can get to the QB.  This guy is versatile and realy intrigues me.

From Lance Zierlein NFL.COM:     STRENGTHS  "Known as the toughest guy in the locker room. Every snap is important to him. Uses explosive get-off to disrupt play design from a defensive tackle spot. Impossible to secure him with reach blocks when he's playing three-technique. Zombie-like motor. Gets tackles and sacks thanks to secondary effort. Good lateral quickness to slide to the blocker's edge. Plays with single-minded desire to find the football. Has leverage to work under and around the blocker once he gets to an edge. Punishing tackler with heavy pads."

**ROUND 4 PICK 124-Shaquem Griffin-OLB-UCF-Story of the combine as he ran a 4.38 40 (which was the fastest by a linebacker since 2003) and had 20 reps on the bench press.  Player of the year in the AAC in 2016 all despite playing with one hand.  Unreal player with unreal skill and heart.  Would take him on my team any day.

**ROUND 6 PICK 196-Du'Vonta Lampkin-Defensive tackle-Oklahoma-did not get invited to the combine which is why he has not shown up on many radars.  Did perform well at the OU pro day.  6'4" 335 lbs and fits the needs on the d line for the Chiefs.  Leaving after his redshirt sophomore season.  It is a mystery where he will be drafted since he wasn't invited to the combine but he has some serious potential.

**ROUND 7 PICK 233-Sean Chandler-Safety-Temple-Was a starting corner and made the switch to safety at Temple.   Had 265 tackles which ranked 14th in team history. Tough hard nosed player that is a good tackler that would fit in nicely at safety and special teams.

**ROUND 7 PICK 243-Tyler Conklin-Tight End-Central Michigan-Over came a foot injury in college but put up 35 catches for 504 yards and 5 touchdowns.  I still like the Chiefs to take a tight end in this draft to give depth to the position and a decent blocking and pass catching tight end.  7th rounders are a complete toss up so you never know but if you are throwing darts in this round why not a tight end.
