The final day in Surprise

Royals: 3

Rangers:3

The Good old fashioned Spring Training tie.

Junis pitched seven innings in a game known to move quickly. Ned said he had to finish he work in the bullpen to make sure he got enough pitches in. He looked sharp and it second in line in the Royals rotation this season.

Zimmer got in one final time as well to cap off a really good spring, and feels like a lock to make the bullpen.

Lastly from the game, we finally got Frank Schwindel behind the plate. It didn’t disappoint. He threw out the only runner who tried to steal on him and caught two scoreless innings.

On the roster…

The full roster won’t be known until we get close to the season but it is certainly starting to take shape.

In pitching news, Danny Duffy is still in his throwing program down here in Surprise and things seem to be moving slowly.

He is slated to throw a live BP tomorrow, but Ned Yost said he will need a few minor league rehab starts in order to get built up enough to pitch for the big league club. I still think it is possible Duffy could go to the pen when he returns, but a lot will depend on how Fillmyer performs.

The Duffy injury is concerning because they have slowly moved his timeline back a little at a time. When I have more on the injury I will certainly give it to you.

I also think that Frank Schwindel is going to make this roster. Ned had good things to say about him. He has performed well, and Ned said he was more versatile than he had given him credit for.

That is still limited…He plays 1st mostly and can play 3rd in a pinch. Though he can be a possibility at emergency backup catcher.

Also the Royals have returned Sam McWilliams to Tamba Bay after taking him in the Rule 5 draft. Sam struggled this spring, and the decision was made for them. Ned said it was a tough decicion for them, and they were hopng to keep him on the roster, but this is how they go sometimes.

Chris Ellis still remains with the club for now, but he is not a certainty to stick with the roster.
