Move Over Len, Patrick is on Top!

Mahomes Shattering Records

Sunday was a record setting day for Patrick Mahomes.  He passed Len Dawson for the most touchdown passes in a season by a Chiefs quarterback.  With his hook up to Tyreek Hill in the second quarter, Mahomes passed Dawson for the all time spot.  He now has 31 touchdown passes this season breaking the record that was set way back in 1964 when passing was barely considered in the NFL or AFL for that matter.  Mahomes continues to shine and each week he does something that leaves fans saying "WOW" as they are leaving the stadium.  So, lets take a look at what else was accomplished on Sunday

1- Patrick Mahomes is #1 in Chiefs history when it comes to touchdown passes in a season.  The fact that the record has lasted since 1964 is more of an indictment of the quarterbacks that Kansas City has had, but nonetheless its still very impressive.  With 6 games to go in the regular season, Mahomes could be pushing the 50 TD mark before its all said and done.

56- Ben Niemann wore #56 on Sunday and for a moment I was excited the Chiefs re-signed Derrick Johnson.  There are certain numbers that should never be worn again by Chiefs players:  56, 88, 68, 15 just to name a few.  Johnson is the all time leading tackler in KC history at least we can show him the respect he deserves by not passing out his number the season after he leaves Kansas City.

75- Mahomes completed 75% of his passes on Sunday.  People will look at JUST 2 TD's and 249 yards and think it was just an average game for the Chiefs quarterback but that 75% completion percentage is significant.  It marks the 4th straight game where he has completed over 70% of his passes and over the last 3 weeks he has gotten better.  Against Denver he was at 70%, then he was 71% against Cleveland and now 75% against Arizona.  The kid is getting better as the weeks go on.

9- Tyreek Hill set a personal record on Sunday with 2 touchdown receptions.  He now has 9 on the year.  In fact, Hill now has 25 offensive touchdowns in his less than 3 years in Kansas City.

2- The Chiefs now have a 2 game lead over the Patriots for the best record in the AFC.  Technically Pittsburgh is now the 2 seed in the AFC and hopefully that holds.  If it does, then KC would only have to face either the Steelers or the Patriots to advance to the Super Bowl and the road to Atlanta will go thru Arrowhead.

We are on to Mexico City for the Rams on Monday Night.  Hopefully its the game that the NFL has been dreaming about since about Week 3 of the season!
