We are almost done with the first quarter of the 2018 NFL season and the one thing we know is the Chiefs are the most consistent offensive team in the league and it's not even close.  For the 3rd consecutive week, Patrick Mahomes had multiple touchdown passes and now has 13 on the season, the Chiefs scored over 30 points for the 3rd consecutive week and they are delivering the knock out punch very early in ballgames.  They have an uncanny knack for delivering the knock out punch right away.  They set the tone early and they never give in.  They make the plays they need to make when they need to make them and the involve everyone on their team.  Sunday's 11 point win over the 49ers wasn't pretty in the 2nd half but the first half was beautiful.  The day was perfect, the crowd reminded me of the 1990s and the defense and offense came up with some big plays in the first 30 minutes.  So after 3 games we have a team that is pretty darn fun to watch and a quarterback who is legit.  Here's what I took away from the 3rd win of the season.

1.  Mahomes impresses everyone- After the game a high ranking Chiefs official said to me, "It's about time we have our quarterback...I mean this franchise has been around how long and we finally got the guy".  He's wowing everyone in league circles from fans to media and even those inside the organization.  Its fun to watch him play, especially when he scrambles around and STILL throws a touchdown pass.

That was just one of the 3 touchdown passes on the day.  He now has 13 for the year, the ONLY QB in NFL HISTORY to have 13 TD's after 3 weeks.

2.  It's not just Mahomes- Thru 3 weeks of the season the Chiefs have scored 118 points, the most in franchise history edging out the 1966 team that scored 117 points thru 3 weeks.  They are also just the 3rd team in NFL history to average 38 points a game to start a season, so yeah, they are pretty pretty good.

3.  For as bad as the defense appears, they aren't THAT bad- The defense has actually set the tone for the Chiefs this year.  In every game they have stopped the opponent on their opening series allowing the offense to take over, score early and jump out on top early.  For as much flack as the defense has and will take in 2018 that is a pretty impressive stat.

4.  Sammy Watkins finds the end zone- For the 2nd week in a row, we saw the Chiefs offense get folks involved who haven't made much noise this season.  Sammy finally found pay dirt and scored his first touchdown of the year.  9 different folks have now caught touchdown passes from Mahomes.

5.  Kareem Hunt scored- Its been a slow start to the season for Kareem Hunt and fantasy owners have been nervous.  Hunt found the end zone 2 times on Sunday. I expect Hunt to get more involved as the weather cools off and they need to grind out wins.  It was good to see Hunt in the end zone on Sunday afternoon.

Now the Chiefs have a long week as they await a Monday Night showdown in Denver with the Broncos!  First place in the AFC West will be on the line.  We will be in Denver for the game providing KC with the best Chiefs coverage in KC.
