The Chiefs Are Back!

Win Over Oakland Was HUGE!

Well, that was much needed!  The Chiefs grabbed a big time AFC West win on Sunday by knocking off the Oakland Raiders 26-15.  KC came out with fire and venom and the Raiders were never in the ball game and the Chiefs now await the Chargers for a first place show down on Saturday night at Arrowhead.  It was a very good win for a team that needed a victory.  Now with 3 games to go, the Chiefs control their own destiny.  Here are 5 things I took away from the win over the Raiders.

1.  Al Davis is still alive- He was taking pictures in the club level on Sunday afternoon so I HAD to grab a picture with the founder of the Raiders.  He clearly wasn't in a good mood as his team was getting housed by the Chiefs.  Davis may need to find a new coach after the season after Del Rio was once again owned by Andy Reid and the Chiefs.  KC is now 14-2 in their last 16 AFC West games.  Pretty impressive.

2.  Great things happen when you run the ball- Kareem Hunt was awesome on Sunday.  For the first time since September he went over 100 yards rushing and scored a touchdown.  The Chiefs went to Hunt early and often and it paid off.  The rookie phenom became just the 2nd first year player to go over 1000 yards rushing in his initial season.  He finished the day with 116 yards on 25 carries.  That's how you win football games.

3.  The defensive line played inspired- They held Oakland to just 70 yards rushing and sacked Derek Carr 3 times plus pressured him all afternoon.  It was Chris Jones big tip that allowed KC to get their first turnover of the afternoon when Oakland looked to be driving for points.  Welcome back D-line!  It's good to have you playing well again!

4.  Message sent- While I didn't agree with the Marcus Peters suspension, it clearly paid off.  The Chiefs played disciplined football, committed no personal foul penalties and they really didn't commit any dumb penalties either. I thought this was the most sound KC played all season long.  No one wants to be the next guy suspended.

5.  Winning cures everything- All the bad tastes we have had for the last 6 weeks are gone.  The team stepped up when they had to and made plays.  They came up with big stops, big turnovers and really silenced all the critics...for one Sunday at least.  Now, it's on to Los Angeles on Saturday night and that game will be basically for all the marbles in the AFC West.
