Patrick Mahomes is only 24, but he's already thinking about his great-great grandchildren.

The newly minted half-billionaire quarterback of the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs says he's pleased to have generational financial security after completing a record 10-year contract extension.

"I knew I wanted to be part of something great, and I wanted to be a part of having great players around me, but I also wanted the financial security of being able to take care of my grandkids' grandkids," Mahomes told hosts Carrington Harrison and Sean Lavine on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City. "And I felt like with this contract, I could do all those things."

But amazingly, Mahomes might have left money on the table in the long term -- which he says he doesn't mind in exchange for stability.

"Just to have the security of knowing where I'm at, and knowing that I'll always have a great football team around me, was something that I thought was too good to pass up on."

The $500M man said the reality of his new contract still hasn't set in, a sentiment he shared by text message with his father, former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes. There were no immediate plans for a celebration either, the star QB said, just trying to get back on his usual workout routine, with a celebrity golf outing in Tahoe later in the week.

With success coming so soon for Mahomes, it's little wonder he was stumped by an interesting feat he achieved in making the jump from college to the pros. The Texas Tech product is the only Big 12 quarterback to go on to win an NFL playoff game, according to the hosts.

"I didn't know that, but I'm glad I can kind of change that .. there's a couple guys coming up below me who will help me after that."
