Von Miller tells us what we already knew - that there's no stopping Patrick Mahomes

"We’ve just got to score points," said Miller.

Von Miller and the Denver Broncos have dropped nine straight games to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs dating back to 2015, Miller's fifth year in the NFL.

When asked what the Broncos' defense has to do to stop Patrick Mahomes, his response was very blunt. "Can't," Miller replied during an interview with Kent Babb of the Washington Post, "We’ve just got to score points."

Miller would know that as well as anyone in the league. In two matchups with the Chiefs in 2019, the Broncos went 0-2 while giving up a total of 53 points and scoring only 9.

"We’ve got to score on offense because you cannot — it’s not smart to go into the game and say we’re going to hold Patrick Mahomes to no points.”  Miller continued.

It seems as though Broncos' GM and President of football operations John Elway is of the same mindset. Elway drafted Iowa pass-catching tight end Noah Fant with their first-round pick of the 2019 draft and former University of Missouri quarterback Drew Lock with their second. Lock has certainly looked the part after going 4-1 in starting the final five games of the 2019 season.

The Broncos used the 2020 draft to surround Lock with a myriad of offensive weapons, using their first and second-round picks on polished Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, and speedy wide receiver/returner KJ Hamler out of Penn State. The front office circled back to addressing the offense again in the fourth round by selecting former Lock target, tight-end Albert Okwuegbunam.

When you pair these young explosive weapons with the existing commodities of star wide receiver Courtland Sutton and running back Phillip Lindsay, you have a great offense... On paper.

While it appears the Broncos have followed the blueprint the Chiefs have laid out, we won't truly know if they are a carbon copy or a cheap imitation that looks good form a distance, until they match up on Oct. 25 in Denver.
